Hans Christian Andersen.

Hans Christian Andersen. AR out in the ocean, where the water is as blue as the prettiest cornflower, and as clear as crystal, it is very, very deep; so deep, indeed, that no cable could fathom it: many church steeples, piled one upon another, would not reach from the ground beneath to the surface of the water above. There dwell the Sea King and his subjects. And how handsome the young prince looked, as he pressed the hands of all present and smiled at them, while the music resounded through the clear night air. It was very late; yet the little mermaid could not take her eyes from the ship, or from the beautiful prince.

If you have a child who enjoys fairytales and stories, then this is the book for them! Great also for older children, I enjoyed this! And everyone will fall in love with the beautiful illustrations and the classic Hans Christian Andersan's story, children to teens to even adults. This is a must have book for everyone out there. Though I people had some concerns while reading it. Some art may be deemed a bit graphic for parents concerned about their children but I believe that I deemed nothing inappropriate about this. Yes they show the shape of breasts, but really. It is not that noticeable with the hair covering it and the beautiful colors and pictures. Also, you get caught up in the book and the serene pictures, that you don't notice it. And let's be real people, if mermaids were reals, they realistically wouldn't have seashell bras (ahem, Ariel). Other than that, the story was very truthful to the Hans Christian Andersan story, but a bit of details were taken out. I noticed it because I usually read the story 3 times a week... It was just cut. But it was still good. Also, this book was simplified but still uptained Hans Christian Andersan's classic story. Another thing is, not to this story is NOT like the Disney version. So if you had that in mind, then you may not want this. If you want to get introduced to the original story then read it and love it! This book is LONG! If you want a short story do not read this! I wanted a longer story so I enjoyed this. A lot. Last, the ending is bittersweet. Keep that in mind... Anyway. You will enjoy this book and I believe all age groups will fall in love with this!

I purchased this book because I love Charles Santore's illustrations. This book does not disappoint. The illustrations are amazing! My daughter keeps taking it to her room to look through the pages. The story is a little different from the Disney version, it is better and true to the original. This is one of my favorite books I have collected.

This was one of my first books as a child. I can honestly say that my career as an artist today is attributed entirely to my love of these illustrations and my early years spent trying to draw mermaids the way Charles Santore did in this book. Unfortunately, I lost my original copy in one of my many moves after college. I can't express how happy I am to have found this on Amazon and to now have a copy of this back on my shelf, ready to share with my future children. Perfect condition, fast shipping- I won't be letting this copy out of my sight :) thank you!

I remember a long time ago while I was in elementary school my little sister brought this book home from the school library. We were both enchanted by the gorgeous art work and the classic tale of the little mermaid. This book has always been lingering in the back of my mind and I've tired to find it at stores but never could. One day while searching through books on amazon I came across it, my long lost favorite book! I bought it for 14 cents plus there was a $2 shipping price, what a great deal. I love this book even more now that I am older and I plan on reading this to my kids someday.

I absolutely loved this book, the illustrations were definitely captivating. As a child growing up (approx age 8) this book raised several questions about love, self-sacrifice....things that I was not aware of at a young age. Despite initially feeling confused, I have grown to appreciate the story. It is a unique tale that didn't have that 'Disney-Happy-Ending', but at the same time, left an imprint in your heart.

A Hans Christian Anderston story does not really need a review. As one would expect, the book is way better than the Disney movie.

But I did feel that the illustrations in this book needed to be mentioned. There is a lot of nudity in this book considering it is meant for children. I would not go so far as to call it distasteful, but if you are careful in allowing such things in your home, you will want to take a look before making an online purchase. Some would consider the illustrations risque, while others will find them quite beautiful.
