This is the fifth Han Suyin book I've read. All of them are a little different from each other. Such ignorance leads to a lot of silly ideas and conclusions. Han Suyin is both insider and outsider for China

This is the fifth Han Suyin book I've read. It deals with controversial questions about Mao's rise to power and later (I'm only about 2/3 of the way through it). The book is very pro-Mao. If you are interested in Mao and the Chinese revolution, you should read this book (and probably some others too). Han Suyin is both insider and outsider for China. She is an able advocate for a common sense approach to the study of the history and cultural changes that she was immersed in throughout her long and very interesting life.

Chinese-born author best known for her 1952 book A Many-Splendoured Thing. She laboured to produce a detailed history of Mao and the Cultural Revolution, resulting in The Morning Deluge (1972) and Wind in the Tower (1976). Neither offered much original insight, and the credibility of the second volume was undermined by the political upheavals following Mao's death in 1976. Another autobiographical volume, My House Has Two Doors (1980), tried to reconcile some of these contradictions.
