Illustrated memoir by the absolutely fabulous Joanna Lumley. Joanna Lumley is one of Britain's undisputed national treasures, an English actress, voiceover artist and author, best known for her roles in the British television series ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS portraying Edina Monsoon's best friend, Patsy Stone, as well as parts in THE NEW AVENGERS and SAPPHIRE & STEEL. Joanna Lumley was born in post-war Kasmir, the daughter of a major in the 6th Gurkha Rifles. Raised in the south of England, she is a former model and actress, best known for her roles in The New Avengers, Absolutely Fabulous and Sensitive Skin.

Absolutely: A Memoir. The absolutely fabulous Joanna Lumley opens her private albums for this illustrated memoir of her life. First published: Tuesday 27th September 2011. Or maybe intentionally funny. Lumley's greatest gift is perhaps not her legs or that amazing voice, but her terrific sense of the absurd. There is a Joanna Lumley for everyone: there's beautiful angelic Joanna, hot sexy Joanna, kick-ass "Purdey" Joanna, heroic single mum Joanna, comic genius Joanna and crusading Gurkha-saver Joanna. And thanks to her habit of insanely hoarding everything from bales of cloth to old wrapping paper, she has pictures of every incarnation, which are lushly reproduced in her immensely fun scrapbook-memoir, Absolutely. It's just so typically her to do a memoir like this.

Joanna Lumley is probably one of the most underrated British actresses. She was never trained to be an actress, unlike many British performers who either have attended drama school or been part of a theatre company or stage/TV act in the begining of their career. Despite this, her life is rich and it is without any wonder her versatility as an actress comes so naturally.

The book is full of wonderful stories and beautiful pictures (more than any typical celebrity memoir) about her experiences that have shaped her as a person and a performer. From growing up in the Far East, to being a working model in London, her big break on the Avengers (a BBC spy-fi, not the comic superheroes) and later, the success of Absolutely Fabulous, to the recent years of life including stories about her adventure travels, her family and her work for the Gurkhas in the UK.

Especially recommended for fans of Ms Lumley and her works.

Loved it. Joanna is one of the most gracious, brilliant, funny, and talented people on the planet. As it turns out, she's a great author as well. I would love to meet her. Until then I will be contented with this book. At the risk of being an ungrateful reader, I only wish there was more.

Joanna Lumley's memoir contains a dash of the expected (the creation of "Absolutely Fabulous", a high level view of her career as an actress) and the unexpected (growing up in India and her family's involvement with Nepal and the Dalai Lama). Great family photos. The end result? "Absolutely" interesting!

Amazing Book for fans and for anyone who wants to learn about the author's life. Great pictures, great outline of her life.

Impressive book to have on your table. Hardcover version is the best. You get to really learn more than just the author. You have to buy it to know what I mean. Highly suggested item!!!

Love Joanna Lumley and loved her autobiography. I enjoyed learning more about her childhood and family. The historical pictures from her family album were fascinating. I do wish it was longer with more detail.

Enjoyable and easy to read, but too light weight to be touted as a biography. Its actually a dossier of photographs with annotation. I thought it would be more in the style of Dawn French's "Hey Fatty" which was a laugh a minute and thoroughly enjoyable. Joanna is beautiful, smart and has had an incredible life. WOuld have liked to have learned more about her, which is why I bought this book, but have finished the book only knowing slightly more than I did to start with.
Joan a Lumber is Absolutely fabulous! I felt she was telling me her story over coffee. Love to meet her. The book was in great shape all the way for the UK. A book I will treasure.
