Vonnegut explains the title in the introduction: Dear Reader: The title of this book is composed of three words from my novel Cat's Cradle. A "wampeter" is an object around which the lives of many otherwise unrelated people may revolve. The Holy Grail would be a case in point.

Wampeters, Foma and Granfalloons book. Wampeters, Foma & Granfalloons (Opinions) is a rare opportunity to experience Kurt Vonnegut speaking in his own voice about his own life, his views of the world, his writing, and the writing of others.

Only 16 left in stock (more on the way). Kurt Vonnegut’s black humor, satiric voice, and incomparable imagination first captured America’s attention in The Sirens of Titan in 1959 and established him as a true artist (The New York Times) with Cat’s Cradle in 1963. He was, as Graham Greene declared, one of the best living American writers.

Wampeters, Foma & Granfalloons (Opinions) is a rare opportunity to experience Kurt Vonnegut speaking in his own voice about his own life, his views of the world, his writing, and the writing of others. but also into his heart. The appeal of Kurt Vonnegut, especially to bright younger readers of the past few decades, may be attributed partly to the fact that he is one of the few writers who have successfully straddled the imaginary line between asy and "real literature.

Wampeters, Foma & Granfalloons (Opinions) is a rare opportunity to experience Kurt Vonnegut speaking in his own voice . About the Author: While a young PR man at General Electric, KURT VONNEGUT (1922-2007) sold his first short story to one of the many literary publications that were thriving then.

Kurt Vonnegut found himself moved by the war as well. In Wampeters, Foma & Granfalloons, a collection of pieces on a range of topics, he included the essay, Biafra: A People Betrayed. Biafra lost its freedom, of course, and I was in the middle of it as all its fronts were collapsing, he writes. I flew in from Gabon on the night of January 3, with bags of corn, beans, and powdered milk, aboard a blacked out DC6 chartered by Caritas, the Roman Catholic relief organization.

The bestselling author of Hocus Pocus offers a rare glimpse into his magic world, as he presents this indignant, outrageous, always witty, and deeply-felt collection of his reviews, essays, and speeches. "Vonnegut at his unnerving best."--Providence Bulletin. Reissue.

Having read pretty much everything Mr. Vonnegut wrote, I had to consume this mishmash of his various works - this is a collection of short stories, essays and thoughts from an American treasure. I cannot help but laugh when reading this book. It's almost like talking to the man himself and hearing his thoughts on all matter of things he encounters. For me, this is simple, honest prose. If you like Vonnegut, read it. If you've never read Vonnegut, let this be your first of many.

As everybody knows, Kurt Vonnegut was both, one of our most celebrated and gifted authors, a wonderful writer. But, he also was a deeply troubled person with a conflicted personality. And he was a fool, writing about now forgotten Biafra with the compassion of his wounded soul, inflicted on him by his war time experience with the 106th division captured and imprisoned in Dresden (Vonnegut: "possibly the world's most beautiful city"), where he survived the bombing and then helped clean out charred bodies in a lifeless city (Vonnegut's count 250,000 killed, official count 30,000).

It’s a great collection of essays, reviews, an interview w/ Playboy Magazine, a fiction short story, and general observations about Humans. It’s Vonnegut, so it’s just outstanding because he’s a favorite of mine. :-)

For the chronological reader of Vonnegut, as I am, it was another enjoyable exposure to this man's great works. It is candid and enjoyable.

This is a collection of Vonnegut interviews and speeches. It took me a while to warm up to it, but it has his usual voice and outlook on life in there. I thought this was going to be a continuation of Cat's Cradle...nope!

Better then I hoped, so, good KV writing, if you like most of his stuff- you'd like this one.

You can really never go wrong with Vonnegut. This is a collection of his works, narrated by Vonnegut himself. He was simply a brilliant man that we could all learn something from. There are some great seeds of knowledge in here. Highly recommend.
Vonnegut is a great writer, but a lot of his writing is tedious for one reason or another. Sometimes his plots aren't that amusing, or dwell on his favorite hobbyhorses. This collection of short stories is not tedious at all - it is great with many amusing and thought-provoking entries.
