Publisher's Description. This comprehensive resource illustrates how to use photojournalistic techniques to produce beautiful portraits of children that look candid and unposed-and stand in stark contrast to the predictable, prop-filled photographs of decades past. Besides looking stiff and unnatural, traditional portraitures can be hard on both photographers and parents who must persuade squirmy children to assume odd poses amid a set full of props.

Photojournalists create pictures that contribute to the news media, and help communities connect with one other. Photojournalism works within the same ethical approaches to objectivity that are applied by other journalists. Photojournalists must be well informed and knowledgeable about events happening right outside their door. They deliver news in a creative format that is not only informative, but also entertaining. Photographing news for an assignment is one of the most ethical problems photographers face.

Besides looking stiff and unnatural, traditional portraitures can be hard on both photographers and parents who must persuade squirmy children to assume odd poses amid a set full of props. Instead, photographers can utilize children’s innate animation and ability to unknowingly pose themselves to create a beautiful, visual story while simultaneously providing parents with a plethora of wall-portrait opportunities. I have this book, it's not a bad book, but if you're looking for a true photojournalistic approach, this is not the book. It's a studio book. I think photojournalism has been such a marketing buzzword that everybody wants to jump on it... but this is not at all about capturing children in a photojournalistic style. So if you're looking for a studio book, yeah, you could do worse. But don't be misled by the title.

I was disappointed with this book. In my opinion the title is misleading in that it is not focused on a photojournalistic approach. The majority of chapters are supported with studio portrait examples. The book is also much shorter than I expected, and contains a needless number of full page photos. There is some valuable content I suppose, but relatively light compared to other books out there.

If you ever want to better yourself as a professional childrens photographer or to start a career as one, you must have Kevins book. His photojournalistic approach techniques are helpful to both parents who photograph their children and to professionals who can take all this info and use it in their business. Do yourself a favor and get this book to take great portraits.

From the moment you walk in the door, Newsome's Studio, Kevin & Kaye Newsome make parents and children a like feel as if they are part of the family.

This comprehensive guide to children's portraiture gives its readers a glimpse into the creative mind and techniques of this master photographer. Kevin and his wife Kaye began their lifelong passion and trade over three decades ago. Today, Kevin and Kaye own and operate a first class portrait studio in Tampa, Florida.

Do yourself a favor and make this book a part of your collection. Kevin's images jump off the page with humanity and natural childhood beauty that most photographers only desire to capture. And, behind every great man, there is an even better woman! Kaye's ability to "wrangle" children at a portrait session is legendary! To witness Kevin and Kaye in action is truly a testament to all of us who aspire to achieve photographic excellence.

I purchased this book hoping to find some new tips on expanding my children photography beyond the classic portrait styles. I was pleasantly surprised by the author's deep knowledge of the subject and family photography business itself. The last chapters are full of great tips on how to improve your business.

The book is NOT a technical book, there are perhaps two or three lighting diagrams... it is full of good tips and advice on how to deal with each age group and with the parents.

Highly recommended, regardless of your style of photography
