The Adoration of the Magi is a painting by the Italian Renaissance master Sandro Botticelli, dating from 1475 or 1476, early in his career. The work is on display at the Uffizi in Florence. Botticelli was commissioned to paint at least seven versions of The Adoration of the Magi. This version was commissioned by Gaspare di Zanobi del Lama for his funerary chapel in Santa Maria Novella.

Sandro Botticelli (sän´drō bôt´tĬchĕl´lē), . 444–1510, Florentine painter of the Renaissance, whose real name was Alessandro di Mariano Filipepi (älĕssän´drō dē märēä´nō fēlēpā´pē). He was apprenticed to Fra Filippo Lippi, whose delicate coloring can be seen in such early works as the Adoration of the Kings (National Gall. London) and Chigi Madonna (Gardner Mu. Boston). He was one of the greatest colorists in Florence and a master of the rhythmic line.

Alessandro Filipepi, most commonly known as Botticelli, was born in Florence in 1444/5. For much of his life, he was closely allied to the house of the Medici, in whose sphere Botticelli's most important paintings were created, and whose patronage helped to establish him as a painter of considerable wealth and prestige. Botticelli presents the works of Sandro Botticelli, within the context of his life and the society in which he lived. The artist's early development is examined, and the two main influences on his work, the House of Medici and the friar Savonarola, and how these influences manifested themselves in his paintings.

Look, these stickers are about a buck-fifty. They're very nice to look at, but they skimped on the adhesive. I put these on the cover of a notebook and almost immediately they started to peel at the corners. No biggie, I just put some clear tape over them. I'd be upset if I paid $5, but I didn't and they're about worth what you pay for them.

I was very unhappy to find that the two middle pages were not included. I had only ordered this collection to get one sticker, The Birth of Venus (detail of Venus). It looks just like my daughter's profile picture on Facebook and I wanted to make a keychain or something using it for her.

The booklet only cost $1.50, obviously I'm not going to return it with the cost of postage and all. Besides I'd probably just get another defective booklet.

Just thought I would warn potential customers because I am pretty sure mine was not the only one made like this.

Exactly as expected.

Informative and gorgeous book.

I love Botticelli but the selections here were a bit too churchy for me, so I gave the stickers to a church-going friend

Quite lovely!
These stickers are small, pretty reproductions of various pieces of artwork. Each sticker is unique in the book, no doubles of any picture. They aren't the most perfect color plates ever, but they're basically for correspondance and craft purposes, or could be used as a reference (say, by Art History students). While I wish there had been duplicates, I can't fault Dover for erring on the side of variety, and I can't argue with the wonderful value the price represents. This little book is great as stationery, but it would also make a nice stocking-stuffer or gift topper. If Botticelli isn't your favorite artist, Dover has made books of other artists' work, which Amazon also offers and which are just as nifty.
