Golf is, by its very nature, a brutally winnowing game (as Tom Boswell once observed), a mental test as well as a physical one. At the professional level, as practiced on the PGA Tour, it is the last bastion of true athletic individualism; you win or lose because of your own efforts, with no teammates or coaches to blame. Some of the best moments in the book, however, are provided by lesser-known golfers like Brian Henninger and Paul Goydos, who are struggling just to stay on the Tour.

Traveling with the golfers on the PGA Tour, Feinstein gets inside the heads of the game's greatest players as well as its struggling wannabes. Meet superstars like Nick Price, who nailed a fifty-foot putt at the seventeenth to win the British Open, and Paul Azinger, who marked his return from a bout with cancer with an emotional appearance at the Buick Open. Go behind the scenes for Davis Love III's unforgettable come-from-behind victory in the Ryder Cup. In golf, Feinstein eloquently relates, the line that separates triumph from disappointment is incredibly fine. Another golf book, and I thought it would be more of the same old same old...man was I ever wrong. Feinsteins "A Good Walk Spoiled" must have Super Glue spread all over the cover. I simply could not put it down. From page one to the end Feinstein has you in his grasp, or grip because we're talking about a golf book. This is the best writing on golf that I have ever read. The inside dope on the players et al is eye-opening. You thought you knew these players from seeing them on TV, think again. Buy the book and read and read and read. You will have no regrets...that's a promise and I don't make promises lightly. The last promise I made were my marriage vows.

Bought this as a gift for my dad, who is a big golf fan. He really loved it. He has made multiple comments about how he enjoyed it even more than he anticipated and will enjoy going to tournaments more now that he knows so much about the process.

John f is the driest most boring writer of all times. For him to be a best seller the bar must be super low.

Feinstein tells the year-in-the-life stories of famous and not-so-famous golf pros, from trudging through Q-school to the pressure-packed environment of the Majors. Excellent view into the PGA and it's inner-workings. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
