This book touched a lot of nerves in my heart and I found it revealing and cathartic. I highly recommend it to anyone who might be affected by upbringings that left them immobilized and intensely scarred. This book really helps...in a massive kind of way that takes your breath away and makes you realize you CAN, with a great deal of patience and a lot of gentle guidence, learn to heal yourself!

I really loved Dr. Lehman's book. He goes over so much in just one book. The thing I love most about this book is that I came away feeling that I was equipped to deal with the problems I face. He encourages, he's funny and he gives practical steps to take action and fix a lot of what is amiss in a person's life. I wish he could go into detail a little more on how the brain gets to certain conclusions and has certain responses to situations. He does a great job though of giving examples and explaining how to deal with the reactions/conclusions a person has.

This was an excellent book. It is written in a way that is very easy to understand and follow. Often difficult to read, but only because it is as if a mirror is being held before you. It will make you look deeply into your life, your choices, and your past and genuinely provides workable solutions on dealing with the issues addressed. Well worth the time to read. And reread.

Good read and suggestions. However as Dr. Lehman points out, the information in the book are only suggestions unless we choose to act upon them.

You won't regret buying this. I purchased the book on CD. I think this is perfect for young parents. Very good advice!!!!
Dr. Leman did a great job in this book. He's funny, but he gets his message across effectively without being preachy. He doesn't use "psychology book" words, instead he uses human stories that are so easy to relate to. He's sensitive and full of wisdom. He knows what he's talking about based on his personal and professional experience. I no longer suffer from "reluctant perfectionism." We'll I did other things too with our church programs to maintain my healthy self image. But this book is a must read. I got the audio book version. I'm a very busy full time mom. I have my mp3 player and plug my ears with awesome messages while multitasking.
