Only 4 left in stock (more on the way). I was left with a hugh sigh of relief that this isn't all there is and that nihilism is a fashion, a persistent illusion, a mere fashion descend to fade away, like the Rubik's Cube. Interestingly, Barry Long comes to similar conclusions to Julian Jaynes and Owen Barfield about human consciousness, deep time, and other things I won't go into here.

First time read this book from the library after googling Barry Long. Barry is acknowledged by Eckhart Tolle as one of teachers who have influenced Eckhart. I wouldn't say Eckhart stole the 'living at present' teaching from Barry, as it must have resonated with Eckhart's inner discoveries to acknowledge the similarities between them. Barry's approach is more suitable to modern human being who are logic analytical and have a tendency to over thinking.

Barry's teaching cuts through all the spiritual mumble jumble, points directly to the bottom of all the sufferring. Barry's main teaching is 'return to the body' as a way to release thoughts and the past, to arrive at Stillness, which is everybody's fundamental desire. During his numerous videos and audios, he explains various conditions of human unhappiness. Then gradually guides you to the ways of releasing them. Listening to his talk is more effective than reading his books I would say. But reading books helps to have a more systematic understanding of his teachings.

To me, Barry's teachings are more straightforward than Eckhart's. Again it can be very personal. Due to his objection to marketing and forming any type of 'schools/cults', his teachings have remained pretty much unknown to many people. Now there is only one small team managing his legacy, mostly from Australia. He didn't achieve the Stardom that Eckhart did in his life time, not that he was bothered.

Highly recommend Barry's works. It's time for this master to be known by the public.

Every human being will eventually come to realize, "Happiness is the purpose of my life, and fleeting, temporary, changeable happiness ain't it." When that moment arrives, Barry Long is right there to guide you to the discovery of where unchangeable happiness resides: within. Truly, the way in, and how, specifically, covering every possible "not way," (for example, how NOT to pray.) You may get immediate benefit by checking out his audio on YouTube, "How to Stop Thinking." Barry Long preceded Eckhart Tolle as an advocate and teacher of inner body awareness. Long's message does not grant any slack to the "thinker," who would have you avoid inner body awareness in order to perpetuate all human suffering--the belief, "I am a separate, mortal self," The thinker uses the familiar feelings of your stored emotional reactions since childhood to keep you believing its lie.

Barry Long teaches you step by step how to accomplish inner body awareness and bring a permanent end to the "I am the body" idea.

Long challenges the reader to take responsibility for being a human being on this earth -- not responsibility for the person you are but for the being you are. In order to bring life back to earth, as opposed to just living, personal sacrifice is required: to surrender the person you are on behalf of the greater good, the human race. Long's advice for doing this: relentless honesty in personal relationships; facing up to one's fears; the dissolution of delusion and sham in oneself; the shedding of guilt; the ability through being still to find continuous wonder, beauty and love within one's own being.

I've been wondering for some time now, if the present moment (mindfulness) is so wonderful why do I keep leaving it. And why would anybody even want to leave it. Wanting anything other than "this" = suffering, and this wanting creates all the struggling, worrying, unease! impatience! need to escape, ad infinitude. Even the strugglng in meditation, or wanting to be enlightened, or wanting to end my suffering, is just more wanting. This is the most helpful book I own, in that it led me to realize that I don't need to "DO" mindfulness, I am mindfulness. Simple be myself, and notice the wanting.
