The Common English Bible (CEB) is more than a revision or update of an existing translation. It's an ambitious new translation designed to read smoothly and naturally without compromising the accuracy of the Bible text.

The translation was begun in late 2008 and was finished in 2011. It includes the deuterocanonical books, or apocrypha, which are found in the Catholic Church and Orthodox Church canons, and in Anglican Bibles.

1 Peter 1. CEB. Version. 22As you set yourselves apart by your obedience to the truth so that you might have genuine affection for your fellow believers, love each other deeply and earnestly. 23Do this because you have been given new birth-not from the type of seed that decays but from seed that doesn’t. This seed is God’s life-giving and enduring word.

The Common English Bible is not simply a revision or update of an existing translation. It is a bold new translation designed to meet the needs of Christians as they work to build a strong and meaningful relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

The Common English Study Bible (CEB) includes introductions to each book with a helpful timeline to key events that occur. It has some pictures of the landscape as well. This version is a very "readable" version with many tools and tips to further improve understanding. There are many cross-references for verses and other complementary verses that support each verse. The Bible was put together by a number of scholars who assisted in the interpretation as well. Love the Common English Translation. I also love this printing of the CEB. The leather is soft and the biding is great. I hesitated for a long time to spend the money on this Bible having one of the less expensive DecoTone versions (which I liked also). However, this is a great Bible. It has a much nicer feel in my hands. Moreover, it lays flat and thus is easier to read and to use when preaching. It has been worth every penny.

My only desire is the CEB would make more print options of their Bible available. I would love a Single Column Wide Margin Bible to write notes and I read and study the text.

“A CEB in quality leather. What’s there to complain about?”

1. The binding is glued. GLUED!! A $100 leather bible with a glued binding?? I’m sorry but NO. For those who may not be aware, a glued binding will eventually fall apart. The binding will split or start separating and the pages will start falling out. Whereas a sewn binding will not.

2. This is the original edition with the original, uncorrected errors in the text. See Mark 1:16 where it uses the incorrect singular form “fisherman” when referring to Simon and Andrew.

3. Double column format. The CEB is touted as one of the most readable Bibles today. Why on earth is it printed in a most undreadable double (rather than single) column format??

For these 3 reasons alone this Bible is a big fail. IF the CEB publishers want to see a Bible done right, check out the Cambridge Clarion editions or even the Oxford Bibles. A fabulous Clarion in calfskin leather is only a few dollars more than this junk Bible. This edition is an absolute travesty.

The translation is very good, but for the price this edition of the CEB is not. The binding is not sewn, but glued. The edition is the original edition, which contained errors that have since been corrected and in some cases completely reworded. For example, Mark 1:16 in this edition says, "As Jesus passed alongside the Galilee Sea, he saw two brothers, Simon and Andrew. They were fisherman, so they were throwing fishing nets into the sea." Note the incorrect singular "fisherman."
That was corrected and the verse was reworded in later editions to, "As Jesus passed alongside the Galilee Sea, he saw two brothers, Simon and Andrew, throwing fishing nets into the sea, for they were fishermen."

Initially I was skeptical of the new CEB translation as I have grown quite fond of the ESV. Reading this bible is like taking a deep breath of fresh air. It seems as if passages and stories I have read and studied countless times come to life in this translation. It is quickly becoming my "go-to" bible. The thinline bible is comparable in size to many other thin-line bibles. The leather is supple and the bible fits my hand like a glove. I highly recommend both the translation and genuine leather bound Thinline.

I purchased this for my husband and he is an avid Bible studier and loves reading the word. He reads it every day and reads it to me, so I may order one for myself as it is so easy to understand. We still use our study Bibles, but this is what we need in order to be able to sit and read for the pleasure of reading. It seems to be similar to reading the Message.

its perfect. So thin for so many pages, the cover is super soft, feels good in my hands. easy to turn pages, stays open when sitting on the table.

I already had a copy of the CEB for Kindle and was buying this bible as a gift. However, I instantly fell in love and bought one for myself as well. It was a bit of a risk for me to buy a new bible with no reviews, but it was well worth it.

PROS:
The cowhide is very soft, and it seems to be thick enough to last. The corners of the binding will not snag. The front cover is blank, the spine simple, and the back cover simply says "Genuine Cowhide" and the ISBN. The print block is balanced, the fonts are clean and modern, and the headings are tasteful.

CONS:
There is only one ribbon! The spine has ample room for two ribbons, and that might have been a nice touch, although it's a matter of personal preference. The dedication page doesn't really seem to mesh with the rest of the bible, and it feels thrown in.

My only real complaint, however, is that CEB is not yet available in a single-column format (and even then, in leather). Such a readable translation ought to be printed in a readable format!
One of the Best looking and feeling Bible I have ever purchased.
